Parish Council Update - September 2026
The parish council met on 23rd July in the village hall.
Present: Cllr. Dr J Wymer, Cllr. F Driver, Cllr. S Hudson, Cllr. B Tyler and Cllr. D Wingfield
Apologies were received from Cllr. G Baber and District Councillor Sarah Pugh.
Two members of the public also attended the meeting.
The following matters were discussed:
Village Pond and Gate
Looking to the future, councillors are keen to see the pond area as a rewilding project. A report,
undertaken by Suffolk Wildlife Trust, outlines steps we could act on and these actions will be
considered when developing our budget for next year. The parish council would like to take this
opportunity to thank David Rhodes for his work on the pond and getting us to the point when we
can consider next steps.
If you have any ideas about what you would like to see within the pond area please get in touch.
With the aid of Cllrs Hudson and Driver a bug hotel is being established within the pond area.
Thanks go to Denise and Ray Dinsey for re-locating their bug hotel.
Many thanks to my husband, Robert Newcombe, for repairing the pond gate (again). Please let
councillors know if you see the gate open and it will not close for any reason as it represents a
serious health and safety issue for the parish.
Village Hall Management Committee
Prior to the Village Hall AGM on the 31st July, councillors were briefed on the changes taking
place now the new online booking system is in place (see separate report).
Following on from a conference for village halls earlier in the summer, the possibility of the parish
council becoming 8sole trustee9 of the village hall was discussed. There are several advantages in
transferring the trusteeship away from individuals who have a legal responsibility for the hall to the
parish council as the 8sole trustee9. While the village hall will remain independent of the parish
council, the financial benefits of coming under the auspices of the parish council will secure the
long-term future of the hall, something I think we can all agree would be a good thing.
As we explore the idea of the parish council becoming 8sole trustee,9 more information and
consultation with residents will take place, so watch this space….
