St Andrew9s Church News

Tea Party
As we had so few requests for tickets for the Tea Party, on the 12th September, we have decided
not to go ahead with this event. Many apologies to those who requested tickets.
Bell Ringing
We shall be meeting on a monthly basis on a Saturday mornings at 11am to practise ringing the
bells. A date has not yet been set for September but if you are interested, please contact Sheila
Andrew on 07769872105. Everyone is welcome to come and give it a try. Refreshments will be
available.
Evening Prayer in July
The Evening Prayer service in July was a special occasion for us. We were visited by David and
Fiona Harrison whose grandparents Charlotte Pawsey and Victor Smith were married 100 years
ago in St Andrew9s Church, Brockley. David and Fiona have a copy of the Bury Free Press which
reported the wedding.
On Saturday, at St Andrew’s Church, Brockley, a pretty wedding took place between Miss
Charlotte Pawsey, second daughter of Mr and Mrs F Pawsey of Brockley and Mr Victor
George Smith of Badwell Ash.
Charlotte was the sister of Doris and Evelyn Pawsey who lived in Drury Cottages and will
be remembered by long term residents in the village.

Brockley Church 3 A Place of Belonging
One of the quiet strengths of St Andrew9s Church is the sense of belonging it carries. For
generations, loved ones have been laid to rest here; their names, stories and memories woven into
the life of our village. Many people speak of the churchyard as an anchor 3 a place that holds history
together, reminding us that we are part of something larger than ourselves.
Inside the church, that same feeling continues. It is a place where people come to mark important
moments, to pause, to remember, or simply to sit in the stillness. You don9t need to be a regular
churchgoer to feel at home here. Brockley Church has always been a space where anyone can step
in and feel welcome.
As we look to the future, we are exploring small ways to bring people together and keep the church
open to the whole village. One of these is a Bell Ringing Morning 3 a chance to try something new,
meet others and enjoy the simple pleasure of learning a traditional skill. No experience is needed and
it is all very relaxed. If you have ever wondered what it is like to ring the bells you are warmly
invited to come along and have a go.
Brockley Church belongs to its village 3 past, present and future. We hope you9ll feel able to be part
of whatever comes next.
