Brockley Charities
History
Brockley Charities was established in 1871 for the benefit of the poor of the village.
In 2012 the purposes of the charity, as registered with the Charity Commission, was changed to
better reflect the needs of villagers today. To this end, the majority of the income from it9s
investment fund was reinvested in order to build up capital. This enabled a significant amount to be
donated towards the renovation of the village hall, a facility which has ultimately benefitted many
people in the village.
The charity does, however, continue to have funds available for individual grants for villagers
encountering unforeseen hardship who need financial help. This may include grants for student
books, those affected by the current cost of living crisis, health issues, etc. Applications are
considered on an individual basis, are subject to availability of funds and treated in the strictest
confidence. Please contact any of the trustees if you wish to discuss an application, either on behalf
of yourself or someone you know.
Transport Scheme
At a recent meeting of the trustees, it was proposed to set up a group of volunteer drivers to assist
villagers who are struggling with transportation to hospital or GP appointments. The charity would
reimburse the cost of the fuel. Nick Hayward has offered to co-ordinate the scheme so, if you would
like to volunteer or require transport, please contact Nick to discuss.
