Finances
The Parish Council is now six months into the financial year and we undertook a review of our
spend against this year9s budget. Our precept income this year was £10,546 plus £1,000 from
Suffolk County Council and £2,187 from West Suffolk Council giving us a total of £13,733.
Our expenditure to date totals £9,145.03 with £3,450 going to the playground, £1,075 for the new
solar panels to power the Speed Indicator Device (SID), grants to St. Andrew9s Church and
Village Hall of £1,000 each and £400 to develop a new website. There is also payment for grass
cutting of the village green, Clerk9s salary and subscriptions. We are able to reclaim any VAT paid
for goods and services and this will enable us keep our reserve.
The Parish Council has to keep a reserve of at least 50% of the precept which will mean that there
will be little or no additional expenditure for the final six months of the year.
Parish Council and Village Hall
It is looking increasingly likely that the parish council and village hall trustees will partner up to
transfer the trusteeship to the parish council. In essence this move will secure the long term future
of the hall as there will no longer be individuals (trustees) with a legal responsibility but rather
the parish council as the legal corporate sole trustee. There are many financial advantages with
this approach. The parish council will be able to claim back VAT for goods and services bought
by the village hall and insurance costs will be reduced. We will also have access to bigger
funding pots.
We hope to hold a public meeting for residents to explain why we are making the change and the
advantages it will bring.
Parish Council Website
The website is in its final stages and currently being tested for gremlins! Once live, I will let you
have the web address.
Re-location of Bus Stop
We are no further forward with this matter and councillors have agreed to contact our MP to see if
he is able to help.
Traffic Calming Signs
We have been asked by residents whether we could put up signs at both the north and south end
of the village stating there is 8No Footway= in an attempt to slow speeding vehicles. Suffolk
County has agreed we can erect the signs (but they have no money) so councillors wish to meet
with the highways engineer to explore what the costs and options might be.
Projects for 2027/28
We are now considering projects for next year. If you have an idea of something you would like
to see changed or improved within the village, please get in touch.
