VOLUNTEERS
The parish council relies heavily on the time and commitment of volunteers to undertake work on
our behalf and I wish to thank them for all that they do:
Nikki & Mark Goulding for producing a super newsletter month after month, we are truly lucky to
have you and appreciate your time and commitment.
Jeff Keighley for looking after the defibrillator and ensuring it is fit for purpose, thank goodness we
have never had to use it! Thank you Jeff for your time and commitment, it is very much
appreciated.
Thanks to David Rhodes for fixing the playground fence and looking after the village pond, your
time and commitment is appreciated.
My fellow councillors also give up their time to support the village along with district councillor
Sarah Pugh and county councillor Bobby Bennett, thank you one and all.
DISTRICT COUNCILLOR – SARAH PUGH
A written report from the district councillor was submitted and the following points were made.
Sarah will continue to represent Brockley until 2028 when the county is due to move to 3 unitary
authorities. Current planning regulations do not recognize rural living and those of us who live 8off
grid9 and/or, have properties with listed status are penalized. There has been an increase in the theft
of oil and police are aware but as there is only 3 police personnel assigned to the rural team it is
difficult for them to do much. A great deal of time and money has been spent in introducing the new
recycling scheme and, somewhat to my surprise, we are about to have another large Anglian Water
project which will bring drinking water from Bar Hill to Rede 3 so expect yet more road closures
and diversions.
RECYCLING – Please note
Those residents who subscribe to the brown bin for garden waste will still need to pay an annual fee.
COUNTY COUNCILLOR – BOBBY BENNETT
Bobby was recently returned to the county council as representative of a newly formed constituency
which includes Brockley. Bobby has been instrumental in getting the 40mph buffer zone
implemented for us, including paying from her budget for the speed survey we required on the
B1066, as well as contributing some funding for the playground. The Reform party are now in
control of the county council and what this means for the county going forward is, as yet, unknown.
Village Groups and Organisations
The annual meeting provides a forum for the community to come together and promote the many
clubs and organisations active within the village.
WORSHIP – CHAPEL- SIMON LADD
ST. ANDREWS – CAROL-ANN ROBERTSON
The audience heard from St. Andrew9s and Brockley Chapel, both of whom receive a donation from
the parish council and play a significant role within the village community. The chapel continues to
grow both in terms of the fabric of the building, attendance at Sunday services and events.
St Andrew9s is working with Gillian Leader to apply for funding for repairs to the tower roof, porch
roof and the east window; a very challenging time for them.
CHAIRMAN OF VILLAGE HALL – IAN ROBERTSON
The report from the Village Hall Chairman, Ian Robertson, on the running of the village hall
illustrated the dedication and commitment required to keep the hall efficient and effective.
Ensuring compliance with everything from insurance, health & safety, finance and recycling takes
time and energy and the parish council wishes to thank the Chairman for continuing to keep our
valuable village asset in excellent condition.
